Female Founder of the Year - A Voice for the Unheard

In an incredible night for female founders, Saaya Sorrells-Weatherford, co-founder of the workforce platform Emigreat, clinched the victory at the prestigious pitch competition during Di Digital's Female Founders event. This marks the second consecutive year that Female Founders from Founders Loft have taken home the title, following Tiffany Boswell, co-founder of Gothenburg-based Meela, who was named Female Founder of the Year in 2022.

Sorrells-Weatherford emphasized the importance of amplifying the voices often silenced and expressed her joy at winning.

Saaya Sorrells-Weatherford is quoted in DI Digital's article as saying, "This event means so much. Being a female founder and a minority founder can be tough. Some days can feel like an uphill battle. But when you win something like this and are seen by this group of people here, it makes that uphill climb feel a bit less steep."

Emigreats' software has revolutionized the job market by streamlining the often cumbersome and bureaucratic process of hiring individuals from other countries. Their digital infrastructure provides businesses with the support to navigate laws and regulations when hiring individuals from international backgrounds, aiming to simplify HR tasks and save time while reducing uncertainty.

For Sorrells-Weatherford, Emigreat is more than just a business venture; it's a personal conviction. Having moved to Sweden in 2019, she has experienced firsthand the challenges that foreign job seekers face when trying to establish themselves in a new job market.

In the pitch competition final, Emigreats and Emission Twin, founded by Tove Nilstun, were the two finalists that the audience voted on. The evening celebrated not only innovation and entrepreneurship but also a strong voice that opens doors for those who are not always heard. Sorrells-Weatherford and Emigreats will continue their work in building their workforce platform and spreading the message of inclusion—a voice with the potential to change the world of work and society as a whole.
