News about our companies from this summer: ☀️
During the summer, we learned the exciting news that the cofounder of Emigreat, Saaya Sorrells-Weatherford, is nominated for Nordic Women in Tech Awards Entrepreneur of the Year. The award is the annual event that recognizes and celebrates the achievements of female role models who are leading the movement for more women in tech in the Nordic countries.
Nordic Women in Tech Awards is highlighting exceptional female figures with the aim to inspire the new generation of women who want to pursue challenging and exciting careers in the tech industry. By recognizing and honoring those who pave the way for more female presence in tech, the award is helping them to lead the movement for more women in tech in the Nordic countries.
"We are extremely proud and excited about her nomination. Saayas professionalism and ability to make complex challenges understandable and visible makes her a great inspiration for all our Tech entrepreneurs and we hope she will win. For us she is already a winner!", says Jessica Oldborn, Head of Development & Sustainability at Founders Loft.
This is what Saaya wrote on her LinkedIn:
"Feeling very grateful and a little confused to be nominated for Nordic Women in Tech Awards Entrepreneur of the Year 🏆
I am an accidental entrepreneur.
I spent 10 years working in scuba diving and tourism industry. I started my own operation in Honduras in 2013 because we found shortcomings in the scuba diving industry and wanted to do it right. I founded a media company to go with it to combine my film background and my love of the ocean and marine conservation.
Despite having no background in tech, I became a cofounder of Emigreat (Techstars '23) with Anali Molina (who is the best cofounder anyone could ask for) because no one in Sweden would hire me, even for internship positions (!!). This is why so many immigrants become entrepreneurs, because sometimes the only person who will take a chance on you is yourself. I am driven by my passion for minority representation, and because I want to advocate for immigrants and underrepresented groups.
I'm proud of my diverse educational and work history, of the places I've moved to and the things that I've done by just jumping feet first. I am not the conventional success story, and I'm okay with that."
About EmiGreat
Emigreat is an international employee management software enabling companies to take ownership of their employees’ relocation.
The company was founded by internationals who faced their own struggles with the immigration system in Sweden. We understand the system, how it works, and how to disrupt it. Most importantly, we know the value that internationals have to a company and to a country, and we want to enable companies and internationals so that everyone has the opportunity to work and live across borders.
